Our owner and founder Xanadu, is a meticulous craftsman who has devoted his life to consistently creating the most progressive surfboard designs in the industry.
A shaper since the age of 15, Xanadu opened a surfboard factory at 17. He closed his factory after five years in business. The next four years he travelled around the world surfing contests, free surfing, and shaping in countries like Australia, Japan, Hawaii, Indonesia, South and Central America, Southeast Asia, South Pacific, Europe, and California. He moved to California permanently in 1987 and shaped for a local manufacturer until establishing his own label, Xanadu Surf Designs, in 1989.
Xanadu attributes much of his success to timing. "Instead of making a name for myself at an earlier age, I waited for the right time. I spent years travelling and learning about waves and people of various cultures around the world so that when it came time to establish my own label, I would have a more balanced approach from an artistic, business, and personal standpoint. I entered the market in 1989 because I felt the surfing community was ready for a fresh approach to surfboard design. In 1991, after riding my boards for one full year, Brad Gerlach jumped 12 places to finish the Association of Surfing Professionals tour ranked 2nd in the world." As well, Lisa Anderson won two World Titles riding Xanadu Surfboards.
Through the '90's many top professional surfers rode Xanadu Surfboards. A constant traveller, Xanadu works personally with professional surfers worldwide. Logging useful feedback, he calculates ideas that are used to refine his shapes; shapes that have earned him respect in the international surfing community.
For Xanadu, the last five years have been a time to reflect, and create. As a result, many new designs have been made to suit many different surf styles, and surfers. Enjoy life, and GO SURFING. |
